Forest Park Trail Run
Saturday, Dec. 7: 5K and 10K runs start at 10 a.m. in Jacksonville's Forest Park on Reservoir Road. The 5K is 80 percent single track and 20 percent gravel roads in a single loop with two short climbs separated by flat single track and a downhill to the finish. The10K uses the 5K course but adds a third climb on a gravel road and some rolling single track before descending to the finish. Holiday Hustle 5K
Saturday, Dec. 14: The run/walk begins at 5 p.m. at Jacksonville Elementary School, 655 Hueners Lane. The second annual event, sponsored by the Junior League of Jackson County, is the main source of funding for a community program called the Rogue Power Pack program. The Rogue Power Packs provide weekend food packages to chronically hungry elementary-school students from low-income households who are at risk of hunger over the weekend when free school meals are unavailable. Siskiyou Velo Club
Some of the club rides listed below are leisurely; others intense. Choose one that's right for you. All rides include rest stops for coffee and social time. All riders are required to have safe bikes, wear helmets and carry a spare tube/tools and water. Instruction on safe riding and group ride etiquette are available on all rides.
Every Saturday: Velo Slo-Mo rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 7 to 10 mph over 12 to 18 miles on mostly flat terrain. Contact Phil Gagnon at 541-488-4289.

Rogue Valley Audubon Society
Wednesday, Dec. 4: First-Wednesday bird walk to Denman Wildlife Area. The walk lasts about 3 hours and covers about three miles. Meet at the Agate Road entrance gate to the WMA by 8:25 a.m. This is an ongoing citizen-science project to record the numbers of the different species observed by walk participants and enter the data in the Cornell Ornithological Laboratory's e-bird database. Klamath Bird Observatory
Saturday, Dec. 7: KBO bird-walk leader Frank Lospalluto will lead an outing from 8 a.m. to noon to Tou Velle State Park to look for winter residents, including a variety of sparrows, woodpeckers and possibly a bald eagle or two along the trail near the Rogue River. A day-use fee or seasonal parking permit is required (state parks pass or Jackson County Parks permit). Group will meet at Wild Birds Unlimited, 712 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. SOU Ski Swap
Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 7-8: The annual event organized by the Southern Oregon University Outdoor Program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at SOU's Stevenson Union. If you would like to sell items you must register your gear from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Wednesday-Friday, Dec. 4-6.
