Housing not enough
When adequate low-cost housing is somehow provided for all the homeless in Jackson County, will all their other problems disappear?
For some, affordable, available housing will help alleviate ongoing problems. However, for many who suffer with mental illness, addiction, disabilities, diabetes, parole violation, unemployment, dependency and many other issues, adequate, affordable housing will not be enough for stability. The aforementioned problems will continue and homelessness or worse will again be critical issues.
Until society, in this case Jackson County, develops added helping programs at various levels, we will continue to have lots of folks on the street. Let’s look to improving our mental health programs. Let’s get more street people involved in significant counseling. Let’s make early medical intervention available and affordable, as well as many other support services. We also need to start much earlier in helping young families and children clearly headed for trouble.
Various communities in Jackson County cannot do this alone. It must be a collaborative effort, including state and national governments.

Get the rocket ready
Recently, in the midst of everything else that’s going on, Trump had a news conference to let us know he wants to go to Mars.
Good. Get the rocket ready and make it big enough to hold his family, advisers, lawyers, Cabinet and the Republican House and Senate. Maybe we could borrow one from his friend Kim Jung Un.
My granddaughter graduated from SOU on Saturday. She worked hard and committed herself to finish on time. Like most students she took on debt that will follow her for years. In the meantime, SOU happily continued to build new buildings and up the tuition accordingly. Even slamming the seniors with a raise in tuition on their very last quarter!
On Saturday, June 16, commencement day, the three-hour ceremony as part “shareholders meeting,” where the “board members” talked exclusively about how wonderful they are and what they are doing for the school “in the future,” and part commencement speech — I had to keep asking myself whether it was a parody of the worst speech ever. The uninspiring City Council member, Dennis Slattery, talked entirely about himself! “I” was every other word. The last part was over an hour of calling every one of 1,000-plus students to the podium and then having them trickle out of the stadium. What the hell was that?
How does this not speak to the quality of professors and staff at SOU? Did my granddaughter pay a high price for a sad educational experience? Anyone else feel this way?
Robert De Niro
I am mad as hell at that Robert De Niro!
I bet somebody that Robert De Niro did not know any words longer than “duh.” How was I supposed to know that Robert De Niro was so familiar with the F-word?
That guy is even more brilliant and talented than Samantha Yellowjacket of WTBS! And to think that Robert De Niro is by far the smartest NeverTrumper who ever lived.
