A 67-year-old Medford man is in jail for felony assault after allegedly driving drunk and striking a woman around 7 p.m. Wednesday while she was trying to put gas in her car on South Columbus Avenue at Garfield Street.
Gregory Alan Price, of the 1400 block of Orchard Home Drive, was taken into custody for assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants, said Medford police Lt. Justin Ivens. Price is lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $25,000 bail.
A woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to the hospital with injuries to her back after being hit by the vehicle, Ivens said.
“She is expected to be OK,” he said. “Her injuries were non-life-threatening.”
Police conducted a sobriety check on Price at the scene.
“He was twice the legal limit,” Ivens said. The legal limit is .08.
The felony assault charge resulted from the vehicle driven by Price hitting the woman.
Ivens said the woman’s minivan ran out of gas, and she went to a friend’s house to get some fuel. She had her 5-year-old daughter with her.
She returned with some friends and began putting gas into the minivan, which was in the turn lane.
Ivens said a 2013 Jeep was traveling northbound and struck the woman.
He said the 5-year-old daughter wasn’t injured when her mother was hit.
Medford Fire-Rescue dispatched a fire engine to the scene, which is close to South Medford High, and Mercy Flights transported the woman.
