Southbound Interstate 5 was briefly shut down after a multivehicle crash this morning. Fast lane is open with crews and tow on scene.

ODOT warns: Slow down

UPDATE, 10:11: All lanes are open at Sexton Summit after a multivehicle crash blocked both lanes for about an hour. ODOT and emergency crews are on scene. Travelers should expect delays.

Be careful of icy roads and highways this morning.

The Oregon Department of Transportation sent out this email shortly after 8 a.m. to media outlets:

Highways and roads in Jackson and Josephine counties are very icy this morning from overnight freezing fog and black ice. An earlier reference to cloud-seeding at the Medford airport was incorrect.

A multivehicle crash occurred shortly before 8:30 on I-5 at Sexton Summit (milepost 69.5), blocking southbound traffic. Another multivehicle crash occurred on Interstate 5 southbound (milepost 69.5) north of Grants Pass earlier this morning, blocking traffic. Several crashes have been reported in and around Medford.

Crews are continuing to sand and deice state highways and I-5.

Drivers are urged to expect winter driving conditions: use caution, slow down, leave extra following distance and budget extra time for their trip.
