Workers are transforming the Mt. Ashland Ski Lodge, racing against the oncoming winter and its accompanying hordes of skiers.
The workers are adding 1,000 square feet to the lodge by enclosing two decks, relocating the rental shop and creating better guest services. A central stairwell has been moved to one of the enclosed decks, opening up the main floor. Other changes include relocation of the ski and snowboard rental shop to the basement of the lodge, moving lockers from the basement to the former rental shop and changes to the food services area.
The $1.7 million project began in mid-July and is expected to be wrapped up before opening day, which is (snow permitting) set for Dec. 9. Funds are still being collected for the campaign, which was given a boost by a $500,000 matching grant from the Karen and Sid DeBoer Foundation.
