Motorcyclist dies on Highway 62 in collision with deer

Oregon State Police say a Canadian man died Monday morning when his motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 62 near Prospect.

Oregon State troopers and emergency personnel, who responded at about 10 a.m. Monday, said an investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Gary Yarmie, 37, of Oshawa, Ottawa, Canada was traveling north on the highway with 18 other riders when a deer ran into the group.

The deer collided with Yarmie’s motorcycle causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and leave the highway. Yarmie’s motorcycle struck a tree and he suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 62 at the scene was reduced to a single lane of travel for approximately 4½ hours. OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
