Earthquake prep workshop coming to Shady Cove

SHADY COVE — The American Red Cross will host a presentation on preparing for a massive earthquake.

The event is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the Upper Rogue Community Center, 22465 Highway 62 in Shady Cove.

The Prepare Out Loud presentation is free and open to the public. Attendees will learn about the science and history of the Cascadia Subduction Zone, human behavior during disasters, what to expect during an earthquake, and preparations and precautions to take to be ready.

World Day of Prayer scheduled in Ashland

ASHLAND — A local World Day of Prayer service is scheduled for Friday, March 3, at Calvin Hall at the First Presbyterian Church, 1615 Clark Ave., Ashland.

The ecumenical service will begin at 1 p.m., with refreshments and fellowship time to follow. A liturgy written by women of the Philippines will be used in gatherings around the globe. The theme, “Am I Being Unfair to You?” is based on Jesus’ parable of the “Laborers in the Field.”

The local celebration, hosted by Presbyterian Women, will be led by women from five different denominations. All who wish to share in the service are welcome.
