UPDATED: Power back on for 64,000 in Southern Oregon

Power is back on for about 64,000 Pacific Power customers who were without electricity Tuesday morning after a transmission substation in Grants Pass was damaged by onsite construction work.

The majority of the outages affected people in Josephine County, with customers in the dark in Grants Pass, Cave Junction, Merlin, Galice, Wimer and Murphy, according to the Pacific Power website. More than 3,000 affected customers were in Rogue River and in areas just north of the town, the outage map showed.

The outage started at 9:07 a.m. and was restored at 9:39 a.m. Crews were able to reroute power to restore service, according to Pacific Power news release. Work continues on the repairs to the line.


Hours before the outage, crews were working to restore another one in Medford that affected nearly 1,600 customers. Power there was restored just before 6 a.m.
