Dalke’s hot bat boosts South Medford

EUGENE — South Medford erupted for 13 hits and won its second Southwest Conference game, routing Willamette 15-1 in five innings Thursday.

The Panthers 4-10, 2-6 SWC) scored five runs each in the second and fifth innings, and pitchers Ashley Wolfard and Maddie Dalke did the rest, allowing only one hit.

Dalke homered and doubled and drove in four runs. Jaden Alexander was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Wolfard was 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Wolfard pitched three innings, allowed a hit and walked two. Dalke went two and struck out one.

Baseball

NORTH MEDFORD 11, CORVALLIS 4: At Corvallis, Quinton Rumrey was 3-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases to lead North Medford in the nonleague game.

The Black Tornado (9-7) broke it open with six runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit. It had four hits and benefited from an error and two passed balls.

Josh Robbins rapped a two-run double in the sixth for North Medford, and Brandon King scored three runs and stole two bases.

Ryan Sandoval came on in relief in the first inning and went six innings, allowing five hits and four runs (one earned) while striking out six and walking six.

ROGUE RIVER 7-2, LAKEVIEW 2-12: At Lakeview, Rogue River earned a split and remained in second place in the Southern Cascade League.

The Chieftains overcame four errors in the opener, but couldn’t do so in the nightcap, falling to 3-2 in league and 7-6 overall. They are 1 1/2 games behind leader Cascade Christian in the standings.

Derek Nelson limited the Honkers to four hits in Game 1 and slugged a double.

Track and Field

PHOENIX TEAMS THIRD: At Klamath Falls, senior Robby Vos won two events to lead the Phoenix boys in a four-way meet at Mazama High.

Vos captured the 800 and 3,000 meters to help the Pirates to third place with 66 points. Mazama dominated, scoring 256.

Vos ran the 800 in 2:16.36 and the 3,000 in 10:21.82.

The Pirates’ Joseph Grave took the javelin at 151-2 1/2.

The Phoenix girls also placed third, scoring 96 points. Mazama won with 138.

Winners for the Pirates were Lupita Alegria in the 3,000 (13:26.56), Sienna Bauer in the 100 hurdles (18.07), Jasper Cortell in the 300 hurdles (54.0) and Anna Nash in the long jump (16-1).
