A controlled burn scheduled for the hills above Ashland today will close a portion of Ashland Loop Road between Caterpillar Crossing and Lamb Saddle through the late afternoon, according to a news release.
The 20-acre underburn, which will focus primarily on brush and branches. will be held just along the road right below the Toothpick trail, according to Ashland Fire & Rescue forestry division chief Chris Chambers.
Grayback Forestry Inc. will conduct the burn. Trails that could be impacted by smoke include the Caterpillar, top of the Red Queen and Jabberwocky, White Rabbit near Ashland Loop Road, upper Mike Uthoff and the eastern portion of Toothpick near Lamb Saddle.
