I’m wondering what happened to Art Barron on TV channel 5.

Happy to help, KB.
You are correct in surmising that Mr. Barron is no longer on KOBI. He now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he works as a producer for KRQE Fox New Mexico, according to his LinkedIn page and KOBI vice president and general manager Bob Wise.
Barron accepted a producing position at the station in 2017.
“He had worked in Albuquerque previously in his career and returned there to produce ‘New Mexico Living,’ a local lifestyle program,” Wise told us in an email.
KOBI was Barron’s first station job, which he got at age 20, his LinkedIn page says. His latest stint, where he served as a producer and anchor, began in December 2014. He wrote newscast teases for radio and TV, worked on story development and wrote and produced the 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts, which he would eventually anchor. Later, he anchored the 5 and 7 p.m. newscasts.
He’s also worked in newsrooms in Los Angeles, Miami and St. Paul, Minnesota.
In addition to his anchor work, Barron produced a documentary called “Saving a Sacred Rancho in the Canyon.”
