Ekstrand's trial is set for Sept. 9

I was wondering whether you could tell me the latest on a rape suspect you did a story on a while back. His name is Devin Ekstrand. I have not heard or seen anything since his arrest.

This Medford man remains in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail awaiting his trial, which is scheduled for Sept. 9.

Police say Devin Brent Ekstrand, 32, sexually assaulted underage girls after plying them with alcohol, marijuana and hydrocodone. He faces three charges of first-degree rape, one count of first-degree sodomy, two counts of delivery of marijuana, two counts of providing the pain medication hydrocodone to a minor, and five counts of furnishing liquor to a minor, court records show.

Ekstrand was arrested by Medford police investigators who were called to investigate a possible sexual assault. Authorities at Providence Medford Medical Center called police when a teenage girl came in to be examined for evidence of a sexual assault.

A 17-year-old girl told investigators that she had been at a party at Ekstrand's home in May, where he had provided marijuana and alcohol to a gathering of four teens, then sexually assaulted her, police said.

Investigators identified other teens who had been at the party and had a connection to Ekstrand, Medford police Lt. Tim Doney said. Detectives also interviewed Ekstrand before taking him into custody, he said.
