William 'Billy' Joseph Isadore

William Billy Joseph Isadore, of Medford, Ore. passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the age of 92 from age related causes.

Bill was born January 3, 1921, in Hastings, N.Y. to John and Katherine (Gorman) Isadore. Bill was the eldest of four children, including twin brothers Jack and Stan, and sister, Mary. Bills' father was a blacksmith and his mother was a homemaker. In 1924 the Isadores moved to Mountain View, Calif.

In 1942 Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a Gunner's Mate 1st Class on the attack transport USS Hindsdale. During the battle of Okinawa, Bill's ship was hit by a kamikaze pilot. Although there was significant loss of life, Bill survived and continued his tour until 1945. In 1948 Bill married Eda T. Canzian and their son, Gary Joseph, was born in 1952.

Bill worked as an automotive mechanic for a local garage and was later employed by the U.S. Navy as a civilian mechanic at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View, Calif., where he retired after 30 years of service.

Bill and Eda moved to Medford, Ore., where they enjoyed the sunny weather and close proximity to son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Donna. Bill was a master automotive mechanic, welder, and machinist. He was a jack-of-all trades and was always helpful to friends and neighbors.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, vegetable gardening, fishing, and crabbing. Bill attended Sheppard of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point, Ore.

In 1996 Bill met Elaine Arnold, who was his companion until his death. He thought of Elaine and her three daughters Deanna, Janice, and Deborah as family. Bill was a member of the Medford Chapter of Eagles Lodge, where Bill and Elaine enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends.

Bill is survived by his brother, Stan Isadore, of Red Bluff, Calif.; and his son, Gary Joseph Isadore, who lives in Eugene, Ore. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Eda; his brother, Jack; and his sister, Mary.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at Perl Funeral Home Chapel, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.
