W. Raymond Ahrberg, Jr.

W. Raymond Ahrberg, Jr., age 90, died May 20th at his home in Medford, Ore. A memorial service was held May 24, at Perl Siskiyou Funeral Home, Medford, Ore.

Ray was born on March, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a graduate of the University of Toledo in Ohio with a degree in Chemistry. In August, 1939, he married Norma Virginia, who preceded him in death in 1990. Ray served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant JG on the USS Murphy, a destroyer called to duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific. After the war, Ray embarked on a very successful career initially as a research chemist and later a businessman as the Sr. VP of Rust-Oleum Corporation in Evanston, Ill. Ray retired in January, 1981 and moved with his wife to Florida. In 2001, Ray moved to Medford, Ore. to live near his children after the death of his second wife.

During the war and later as an international businessman, Ray traveled extensively throughout the world. His passion for world events, geography and history were central to his many interests.

Ray is survived by a sister, Dorothy Damm of Toledo, Ohio; his four children, Cheryl Todd of Oxnard, Calif., Kyle Ahrberg of Medford, Ore.; Gail Snow and Judy Smith of Portland, Ore.; his in-laws, Brian Smith of Portland, Ore., Roiann Browne of Medford, Ore. and Noma Hanlon of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
