W. Fred Hayes


Fred, a longtime resident of Southern Oregon, recently died at his home in Cheney, Wash.

He was born in Webb City, Mo., one of — children born to Clarence Rip and Una Hayes. They moved to San Bernardino, Calif., in 1945, where Fred attended San Bernardino High School and graduated in 1958. After graduation, he worked as a carpenter and then went to work for Cal-Electric Power Co. Later it became Southern California Edison. He

worked for them 11 years before moving to Oregon.

Fred moved his young family to Coos Bay, Ore., in 1971. He finished his career with Pacific Power and Light, working up the ranks to district manager. He worked in Coos Bay, Roseburg, Medford, and Crescent City districts. He retired in 1990; his favorite job was journeyman lineman.

Fred loved boating, camping, RVing, and golf ball hunting with grandchildren. He was an awesome cribbage player.

In 1963, he married Susan Page and they raised three children, Donald Fredric, Zachary William and Katy Susanne. Fred is survived by his wife, Susan; and children, Fred, Zachary and Katy; grandchildren, Kathleen, Matthew, Kyle and Vincent Hayes, and Kyle Leggett. His extended family includes numerous loving nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.

A memory celebration is being held in Medford, Ore.

Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at Veranda Park Retirement Living, 1641 Veranda Park Dr. (off East McAndrews) Medford, Ore., 97504.
