W. Curtis Tecmire

November 10, 1933 - January 30, 2018

W. Curtis Tecmire, 84, Medford, Oregon passed away peacefully January 30, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 10, 1933 to William and Estelle Tecmire and raised on Grosse Isle, Michigan. In 1951 Curtis graduated from Grosse Isle High School.

Curtis worked for the Detroit Highway and Planning Department from 1954 to 1964 assisting on projects such as Interstate 75.

Curtis moved his family to Medford, Oregon in 1964 working for Jackson County Oregon Roads- Right of Way for more than 30 years. Quite the entrepreneur, Curtis purchased a Mr. Steak Restaurant in 1969 owning and running it with the help of his five sons from 1969 to 1978.

Curtis was a well-known real estate appraiser in the Medford area from 1970 to 2004.

On February 21, 1981 he married his wife, Eunice LaFever and they enjoyed nearly 37 years of marriage.

Curtis was known for his work ethic, which he instilled in his sons and even his grandchildren. He taught his boys at a young age the value of hard work and honesty. His career took a backseat to his family. It didn’t matter the hour he came home, he always helped his boys with their school projects such as building a rocket and science-fair projects.

Two of Curt’s greatest passions were hunting and fishing. One of his favorite lakes, Diamond Lake, was an infamous Tecmire hangout. Curtis enjoyed teaching his boys how to hunt in eastern Oregon. Curt had an extraordinary talent for woodworking. He was a master duck carver, exceeding in the tiny details required for this delicate art.

His family has always been proud to be introduced as Curt’s family. He had a wonderful sense of humor which was appreciated by all. He leaves a legacy of life lessons taught to his boys, their wives, and all of his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Eunice; children, Stephen (Bonnie) Tecmire Mitchell, Randall Tecmire, Whitney (Laurel) Tecmire, Timothy (Susan) Tecmire, Kenneth (Kelly) Tecmire, Jerry (Bobbi) LaFever, John LaFever, and Barbara (Vern) Thorton; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jerry (Carolyn) Tecmire and Chris (Rita) Tecmire.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Tecmire; and sister, Nancy Marcum.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 649 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford, Ore.

A special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Providence Medford Medical Center for their  excellent care of Curtis.
