A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Butte Falls Community Bible Church. Mr. Conley was born Oct. 9, 1928, to Clay and Viola Conley. He attended Butte Falls schools and graduated in 1948. On Sept. 23, 1950, he married his wife, Johnnie, who survives.

Virgil served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and was involved in the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Medford Corporation for 42 years, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator, fire control officer, and logging supervisor. He lived in Butte Falls for 71 years, where he was a member of the Lions Club, served on the City Council, assisted with Boy Scouts, and attended the Butte Falls Community Bible Church. He loved the small town where he grew up, but later relocated to Central Point. There he attended Foots Creek Chapel in Gold Hill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, family gatherings, storytelling, the Braves, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

He had five grandchildren and was the very proud "Papa" of Lance Bruce, Shelley Pugliano, Janelle Harrell, Kayleen Conley, Matthew Conley; and five great-grandchildren, Kara Bruce, Annika Bruce, Luke Pugliano, Ty Pugliano, and Alex Pugliano.

Dad will always be remembered for his honesty, generosity, integrity, work ethic, and his compassion for animals.
