Vedous Victoria Vicki Striplin

Vedous Vicki Striplin, 93, of Abilene, went to be with the Lord peacefully Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Ln., Medford, Ore.

Vedous was born April 21, 1920 to Richard Wallace Shields and Myrtle Ola Reid in Pickens, Okla. She was the second of five children. She married Loyd Herbert Striplin September 28, 1936 in Clebit, Okla. Loyd's profession of logging led their family to Oregon. Vicki devoted her time and energy raising her children and serving her family. As her children became teenagers, Vedous joined the work force in Central Point, Ore. working at Midway Meat Packing Company until her retirement in 1976. After Loyd's death, Vedous moved to Texas to be near her daughter. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ and became very active in African mission work. Through World Bible School "Momma Vicki," as she was lovingly called by her African students, wrote letters teaching and encouraging many World Bible School students in Ghana and Kenya. She spent countless hours serving in her own community at the Christian Service Center. Vedous Striplin left a legacy of love and service to her Lord for her family, community and all who knew her.

Vedous Striplin was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Hebert Striplin; parents, Richard Wallace Shields and Myrtle Ola Shields; sister, Bertha Deana Bishop; brothers, Marvin Wallace Shields and James Alvie Shields; son-in-law, Travis Cranfill; and her grandson, Paul Striplin.

Vedous Striplin is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Kenny and Pat Striplin of Lancaster, Calif., Therman and Karen Striplin of Portland, Ore., and Bob and Lori Striplin of Medford, Ore.; daughter, Patsy Cranfill of Abilene, Texas; sister, Lucy Vanderpool of Killeen, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Vicki's memory to the Ghanaian Mission Fund in care of Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Ln., Abilene, TX 79602; or the Christian Service Center, 901 Mesquite St., Abilene, TX 79601.
