Thelma Ann Dean

Thelma Ann Dean

On January 19th, 2009, a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend passed away at her home in Talent, Oregon.

Thelma Ann Dean was born September 29, 1937 in Prescott, Arizona to Jesse and Rethea Hix. Thelma remained in Arizona throughout her school years. In the spring of 1955, she celebrated the birth of daughter, Sharon Dale. On April 2, 1960, she married the love of her life, Vernon Harvey Dean. After Vern's discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Hilt, California, where Thelma worked for the State Line Store & Restaurant. In 1973, they clebrated the birth of Paul Estle.

Thelma held many positions in her life. Her favorites were her cooking at Stateline in Hilt, California, and Tark's Market in Talent, Oregon, as well as running her own cleaning business.

Anyone who met Thelma would tell you she was the most caring, loving, giving person you could ever meet. As she came to the end of a long medical condition (COPD), she made the most giving choice of all: she donated her body to medical science. Her words were "If I can help just one person to not have to go through what I have or maybe find a cure, then this is all worth doing."

Thelma was preceded in death by both of her parents, two sisters, Linda Morris and Lucille Simon, and brother, Jimmy Hix.

Thelma is survived by her husband, Vern; daughter, Sharon (Bob) Hokrein; son Paul, two sisters, Shirley (John) Irwin and Beverly (Roy) Wilsey; granddaughters, Jennifer Hokrein and Robin Hokrein; great-grandson, Cooper; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Patti Rettmann.

The Memorial is to be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Talent Friends Church, 50 Talent Ave., Talent, Ore. Please make donations to Ashland Community Hospice in lieu of flowers.
