S. Lew 'Pop Pop' Lewis

S. Lew Pop Pop Lewis, 81, of Rock Hall, Md., passed away on September 24, 2011, at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, Md.

He was born on July 25, 1930, the son of the late Samuel H. and Grace Moore Lewis. Following graduation from Eagle Point High School, Mr. Lewis graduated from college and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1950 until 1970, earning an Army Commendation Medal. He retired with over 20 years and went to work as a corrections officer with the State of Maryland, retiring in 1993. His retirement was short lived, as he went back to work with Kent County Public Works until April of this year, when due to health reasons he retired.

He was a member of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company where he served with the Kent County Fire Police. He was also a member of Raum Chapel Church and Sgt. Preston Ashely American Legion Post #228 in Rock Hall, Md. He was know by all as Pop Pop, and was truly loved by his grandchildren, children, wife, and friends.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married in May of 1957, Mom Mom Pat Lewis; his children, Samuel (Vivki) Lewis, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Bonnie Lewis, of Rock Hall, Md.; grandchildren, Lee Lewis, Cody Lewis, and the apple of his eye, Tori Lewis Brooksalong; and three sisters, Inita Kaiser, Phyllis Eccelstan, and Madge Stewart.

Funeral services with Fire Department Honors will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md., where relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, September 27, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
