March 24, 1988 - January 7, 2018
Ryan John Folsom passed away January 7, 2018 when his car was struck by a wrong-way driver in Anderson, California. He was born March 24, 1988 in Cleveland, Ohio to David and Melinda Folsom.
He attended North Medford High School and graduated with a masters degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University. He still holds the single season Black Tornado rushing record and he has the 8th longest run (74 yards) in Cougar football history. He served an LDS mission to Seoul, South Korea. He married Lauren Thompson April 23, 2011.
He would have graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio medical school this Spring, earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors, ranking in the top ten percent of his class. Ryan’s interests were eclectic and broad - he loved the outdoors, played the mandolin, loved sports, music, cycling, and superheroes. But mostly, he loved his family - his wife, Lauren, and their darling boys, Cal (age 3) and Grady (age 2). One of the most tragic aspects of Ryan’s death is that he will not have the chance to meet his third son, who is due in a few weeks.
He is survived by his wife and sons, Lauren, Cal, and Grady Folsom; his parents, Dave and Melinda Folsom; his siblings and their spouses - sister, Emily Williams and her husband, Nate; brother, Rob Folsom and his wife, Ashley; sister, Kate Brase and her husband, Jason; and sister, Halley Folsom.
We will spend our lives trying to lift and brighten this world like Ryan did while he was here. And helping his little boys remember the closest thing to a real superhero any of us ever knew - their father.
Funeral services for Ryan will be held at 10:00 a.m. January 20, 2018 in the Central Point LDS Stake Center located at 2305 Taylor Road, Central Point, OR 97502.
