Robert Charles LeRoy Jenkins

Robert Charles LeRoy Jenkins, 85, of Medford, Ore, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was born to Frank H.W. Jenkins and Ruth (Gossmeyer) Jenkins, on March 7, 1926, in Peoria, Ill., and was the seventh of eight children.

He married Opal L. Denton on June 25, 1950, in Reno, Nev., they had six children together. They divorced and later he married Violet Lois (Firestone) Fieguth on December 21, 1975, they also divorced but he stayed close friends with both.

Robert always had a job from a very early age, newspaper delivery, digging basements, washing cars, working for the railroad, etc. He moved at age 14 from Illinois to California where he eventually went into the Navy. During WWII he served on Navy fleet flagships in the Pacific as a radioman. After serving his country he moved to Oregon in the late 1940s and went into the construction industry building homes. He later worked building and maintaining service stations up and down the West Coast from his business, Jenkins Construction Co., of Medford.

He loved his family, friends and led a very exciting life, racing stock cars, playing pool, traveling, boating, fishing and skiing at the many surrounding lakes. He loved playing music with friends and was in a band in the 1980s The Country Cousins, where he played guitar and sang. He loved music and always encouraged his kids and grandkids to pursue music of any kind. In his later years he enjoyed many hours playing cribbage with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings. He is survived by his six children, Robert G. Jenkins, of Medford, Ore., Ralph E. Jenkins, of Sunny Valley Ore., John K. Jenkins, of Medford, Ore., Ruthie L. Horstman, of Medford, Ore., Melody P. Clark, of Medford, Ore., and Marilee F. Parlet, of Butte Falls, Ore. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, Heather Scott, of Medford, Anna Lowe, of Medford, Juton Horstman, of New York, N.Y., Rachel Moody, of White City, Ore, Noah Horstman, of Salem, Ore., James (BJ) Parlet, of Butte Falls, Ore., Logan Jenkins, of Beaverton, Ore., and Rudger Jenkins, of Medford Ore.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Damian Huizar, Cecilia Huizar, Adreal Lowe, Megaun Lowe, Liliana Huizar, Faith Moody, Lenora Lowe, Christian Moody, Preston Lowe and William Scott, all of the Rogue Valley area.

At Robert's request a funeral will not be held, however there will be an informal open house on Saturday, March 26, 2011, between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., at his home, 755 Marshall Ave., Medford Ore. Please come to visit, reminisce and celebrate his life with his friends and family.
