July 3, 1958 - April 3, 2018
“Once a Marine, Always a Marine.” Richard Salazar was proud to be a United States Marine, joining the Corps immediately following graduation from high school. Rick faithfully and proudly served his country.
Rick was born on July 3, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the second of four children born to Juan and Sylvia Salazar. Rick passed away on April 3, 2018 in Medford, Oregon.
Rick had a natural passion for hunting and fishing, which he learned from his Uncle Pepé. Rick discovered Oregon and loved it so much he made it his home. His passions were well suited to Oregon, and he spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors with his many friends.
While living in Southern Oregon, Rick met his “Oregon family,” Scott and Laura Armstrong and their children. Through them, he met Theresa Pollock, his best friend, faithful companion, and devoted love. Rick and Theresa had many adventures together in the mountains, fishing the Upper Rogue River, and enjoying the Southern Oregon coast, and loved each other completely.
Rick worked in estate sales with his good friend and mentor, Sam Charters, eventually starting his own business, Rick Salazar Estate Services. Rick enjoyed meeting people and his kindness, warmth, and friendly nature endeared him to all. Rick was quick to laugh, always ready to lend a hand, and a genuine friend. He is profoundly missed by too many people to count.
Rick was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his beloved companion, Theresa Pollock; his children, their spouses, and their children: Shawn (Shirley), Sebastian, and Gavin; Jennifer Rodriguez (Robert) and Daniel; and Justin (Stephanie), Sylis, Michael, and Christian. His siblings, Minerva, John, and Edward and their families also survive him. Rick is also survived by Theresa’s sons, who loved him like a father, their spouses and children (who called him Papi and loved him beyond measure): Darren and his girls, Alyssa and Cera; Christian (Taya) Elliana, Judah, and Kimber; Cody (Jessica) Lorelei and Conner, and Nicholas (Sarah) and Shasta.
A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held Saturday, June 16, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at John and Cindy Hanson’s home located at 1690 Arnold Lane, Medford, Oregon.
