Richard Eugene Woods
Richard Eugene Woods, of Cedar Mill, Oregon, went to be with the Lord at age 76. He was born in North Kansas City, Missouri to Walter Russell Woods and Violet E. Woods. The family relocated to Central Point, Ore. in 1951. His father died in 1955 when Rich was 14 years old.
Richard was a four-year letterman at Crater High School in Central Point, Ore. He competed as a broad-jumper and a member of middle distance 400 and 880-yard relay teams.
After graduating from Crater High, Rich joined what was thought to be a promising career in the Rogue Valley lumber industry. The devastating collapse of family-wage jobs led him to move to Portland, Ore. and work in the steel industry.
Trout fishing in high country lakes and cruising in his stick-shift vehicles were his favorite activities. A faithful Bible reader, he also devoured historical novels.
His friends will miss his humor and humbleness as a gentle, “real” good guy.
He is survived by his sister, Phyllis A. White and her husband, David W. White, of Columbia City, Ore.; his two nieces, Christine McKown, of Palm Desert, Calif., and Pamela Morgan and her husband, Phillip Morgan, of Roseburg, Ore.; his nephew, Gregory White, of Medford, Ore.; and their children, Natalie Morgan, of Vancouver, Wash., Christopher Morgan, of Roseburg, Ore., and Joshua and Austin White, of Medford, Ore. He was preceded in death by his brother, James W. Allen, who died January 4, 2018 in Westminster, Calif.
Burial of his ashes beside his parents at Siskiyou Cemetery in Medford, Ore. will be announced later.
