May 1, 1927 - May 8, 2018
Patricia “Patty” E. Binegar, 91, formerly of Medford, Oregon, passed away May 8, 2018 in Portland, Ore. She was born May 1, 1927 in Toledo, Ore., the last of six children born to Maggie Ethel and Wallace Tindall. Patty had a twin sister, Esther Dennis Tindall Angus, “Denny,” to whom she was very close. Denny passed away a few years ago.
Patty attended Willamette University, where she met Ota D. Binegar on her first day at college. They were married a year later, in September 1948. They lived in Salem, Ore. for several years, with Ota being employed by the Department of Revenue. Ota was assigned to the Pendleton office for three years, and then in 1956, the family moved to the Rogue Valley, where Ota worked as the Southern Regional Manager of the Department of Revenue, managing seven offices.
Patty’s greatest joys in life were her three children, Susan Smith (Craig), Deborah Lewis (John), and Mark Binegar (Sharon); along with her five grandchildren, Greg, Scott, Jessica, Megan, and Alex; and four great-grandchildren, Justin, Jorden, Clara, and Amelia.
Patty loved to play golf and was a lifelong member of the Rogue Valley Country Club and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. After a bout with cancer in her mid-40s, Patty became a visitor/volunteer for Reach to Recovery of the American Cancer Society. She also enjoyed T’ai Chi classes, walking on the beach, sewing, traveling, bridge, golf, and reading.
In 2009, Patty and Ota moved to Portland to be near their children. Ota passed away in July 2016. Patty is survived by all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who miss her dearly.
