Patricia "Patty" Himmelman

Patty Himmelman, 78, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009.

Patty was born Dec. 7, 1930 in Southern Oregon to Scott and Frances Hamilton. The oldest of six children she grew up on her parent's pear orchard and farm in Central Point.

As a young woman Patty was a dental assistant and seasonal pear packer. Patty consistently took pride in being one of the fasted pear packers in the Rogue Valley.

Patty married Ernie Himmelman on July 11, 1961. Together they raised their children in Central Point. During those years Patty became the first woman supervisor in her department at the 3M Company in White City. Later Patty became a Real Estate Broker for Bruce Bauer Realty. When the Bauer agency closed, Patty and Ernie became the owners of Fair City Real Estate in Central Point, for which she was the Broker. As a business owner Patty was very active in the community. She was president of the Central Point Chamber of Commerce, assisted with Central Point parades and the United Fund drive, served on the Central Point Planning Commission and the Citizens Advisory Committee of the LCDC. She was honored for her impressive work ethic and community involvement by being named Citizen of the Year in 1984 and Boss of the Year in 1985.

When Patty wasn't working she loved to go camping in the mountains, walking on the Oregon beaches, gardening in her yard, or reading a good book. Perhaps most of all, in her words, "She loved her family more than tongue can tell."

For 13 years the Himmelmans lived out a dream of retirement living next to a creek in the big woods of Prospect.

Patty leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Ernie; sons, Steve Himmelman and wife, Carolyn, of Central Point, Ore., Dan Zuspann and wife, Debbie, of Wasilla, Alaska; daughters, Jan Hemingway and husband, Andy, of Port Orchard, Wash., Jeanne Munds and husband, Bill, of Port Orchard, Wash., Debbie Kacenga and husband, Ken, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Lorena Hergenrether and husband, Richard, of Grants Pass, Ore., Robin Sparks and husband, Doug, of Prineville, Ore.; 16 grandkids; 11 great-grandkids; brothers, Dick Hamilton and Sam Hamilton; and sisters, Rachel Ames, Lee Smith, and Jo Miller.
