Nancy L. Leonard

Nancy L. Leonard passed away July 26, 2012, at Providence Hospital. She was born July 13, 1934, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Milton and Lois Callon (deceased). She was a graduate of the University of Denver. August 20, 1955, she married Roger E. Leonard Jr., who preceded her in death in 2000.

Nancy served the Upper Rogue community for 30 years as the Editor and Publisher of the Upper Rogue Independent. Nancy received numerous accolades and honors, highlighted by serving as Grand Marshal of the Eagle Point 4th of July Parade in 2000; the Director's Award from the Jackson County Fair in 2002; the Eagle Point High School Spirit of the Eagle Award in 2006; she was named an Honorary Chapter Farmer by the Eagle Point FFA; was a recipient of the Eagle Point Grange Community Service Award; she served on the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District Board; was a member of the Lake Creek Historical Society; and served as member of the Jackson Education Service District for sixteen years.

Survivors include her daughters, Kerry (Phil) McCarty, of San Jose, Calif., Marcia Aaron, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; son, Michael Leonard, of Central Point, Ore.; brother, Michael Callon, of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was passionate about the love of her grandchildren, education, community, and books. She was also very grateful for the many friends she had, the help and support they gave her.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held Monday, July 30, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Eagle Point High School Gymnasium with a reception immediately following at Arthur's at the Eagle Point Golf Course. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to a scholarship in Nancy's honor at Eagle Point High School.
