Nancy Archbold Stanard

Nancy Archbold Stanard passed away March 4, 2014 at 101 years of age. She was born June 21, 1912 in Portland, Ore. to parents John and Lou (Thompson) Archbold. Nancy went to Grant High School in Portland, graduating in 1930. She then attended the University of Oregon where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Nancy majored in English & graduated in 1935 with a B.A. While attending college she was Secretary of Student Body as well as President of the Mortar Board. Nancy met Boyce Stanard through a sorority sister who was from Boyce's hometown of McMinnville, Oregon. They were married on December 28th, 1937.

Nancy & Boyce made their home in Seattle, Wash. where Boyce worked as an agent for an insurance company. In 1941 he shipped off for war as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army's Counter Intelligence Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1945. They had two sons, Charles E. and Roger Louis. In 1968 they moved to Medford, Ore. where Nancy volunteered for the American Cancer Society for six years. She was also President of the 9 hole and 18 hole women's golf groups at Rogue Valley Country Club. Nancy was a homemaker who loved to read, play bridge, and golf. She also loved gardening. On hot summer days she could be found tending her flowers, in her bathing suit, so she could jump in the pool when she got too hot. Nancy loved to travel as well. She and her family took vacations to the Hawaiian Islands for 42 years.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce, who passed away May 30, 1991, as well as her older sister, Jane Archbold Witalis. She is survived by her son, Chuck, and his wife, Claudia, their two children, Ryan and Kathy, and two great-granddaughters; son, Roger, and his wife, Winnie; and her caregiver and friend of 15 years, Amy Sisemore.
