January 21, 1920 - May 15, 2017
Miriam Frances Emery and her identical twin, Margaret Gwendolyn were born January 21, 1920 in San Diego, the eldest two of four daughters born to Harold Robert Emery and Julia Matilda Campbell Emery. She was raised, in part, on her father’s 1500-acre dairy ranch near Santa Ysabel, California. After graduating from Hoover High School she married Dale K. Meador of Chula Vista, Calif. (also an identical twin) November 26, 1939. The couple reared their six children principally in La Mesa, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda, Calif., and moved to Medford in 1998. Dale Sr. passed away May 2, 2004 after 64 years of marriage that included his service in the U.S. Navy during WWII - at the time, with three small children - and his long career in construction.
Muriel, as she came to be known, was always very active in the lives of her children and in the family’s churches. She enjoyed participating in the leadership of the Christian Women’s Club in Orange County, Calif. In addition, during the Vietnam conflict she organized a homegrown effort to send thoughtfully packed care packages to 100 American soldiers every month for several years.
Muriel passed away the morning of Monday, May 15, 2017. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Milner of Plymouth, Massachusetts; daughter, Anne Bowman VanDenBerg (son-in-law, David); son, Todd (daughter-in-law, Brenda); and Dale Jr. (daughter-in-law, Nancy), all of Medford; son, Dave (daughter-in-law, Jeanne) of Roseburg; and daughter, Jan (son-in-law, Ron) of Goleta, Calif. Muriel was preceded in death by her 22-year-old twin, Margaret Malm; her sister, Dorothy Thill; her son, Gil (husband of daughter-in-law Marylou, who survives) of the Applegate Valley; son-in-law, Loren Bowman (husband of daughter, Anne); and daughter-in-law, Carolyn (wife of son, Dave). Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren number in the dozens.
Muriel loved the Lord; was an ardent student of the Bible; and faithfully prayed for her family and for her church family, the last of which was Bear Creek Church in Medford. Her faith in the promises of God to all who believe in Jesus will be recalled in a service to be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 100 Windsor, Medford.
