Michael "Mike" Joe Sellars, 71, of Central Point, Ore., passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Three Fountains Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, in Medford.
Michael was born on October 16, 1939, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Sutherlin High School.
He served with the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. Later, he worked as a cable splicer for U.S West for 26 years. He participated in several volunteer programs including Food and Friends (nine years), Airport Information (19 years), and the Courthouse Information (six years). He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks (23 years), the Moose Lodge (31 years), and the Telephone Pioneers (26 years).
Mike enjoyed RV'ing in Mexico, and through all 49 states. He will truly be missed by all.
Mike is survived by his wife, Josephine Sellars; two sons, Steven and Matthew Sellars; stepsons, Chris and Jeff Nolte; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Irene; his stepmother, Henrietta; sisters, Grace Sellars and Betty Hutchins; and brothers, Robert and Paul Sellars.
Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Southern Oregon Humane Society.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011, at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The family will have a potluck following services at 1711 S. Columbus, Medford.
