Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) Harris

Mary Jo Harris passed away peacefully January 25, 2014, at her Central Point home. She was 82.

Mary Jo was born September 21, 1932, in Medford, Ore., the first of four children born to Raymond and Velma McComb.

Mary Jo was valedictorian of her graduating class from Butte Falls High School. She married the love of her life, William (Bill) Leroy Harris on November 23, 1949. Mary Jo worked for the next 15 plus years as secretary to the Superintendent of Butte Falls Schools which included many job duties. The duty she loved the most and is best known for was that of cheerleader/Pep Club advisor. She and her husband, Bill were both involved with community groups and boards. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and bowling. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang at functions with a group known as the Mother Singers.

Mary Jo and Bill lived in Butte Falls for over 20 years then moved to the Medford area. Mary Jo will be remembered as a kind, caring, and loving person with amazing blue eyes and a nice smile.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill Harris; daughter, Pam Deaville (Phil); son, Roger Lee Harris (Judith); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by infant son, Michael Harris; father, Raymond McComb; mother, Velma McComb Helbig; step-father, Vern Helbig; and brothers, Donald McComb, Raymond (Bud) McComb, and Gerald McComb.

There will be a private memorial for Mary Jo. The family would like to thank all the staff at Alderwood Assisted Living in Central Point, Ore., for their dedicated support and love they showed to Mary the past 9 years.
