Marlene K. Wilbur

Marlene K. Wilbur, 81, died peacefully in her sleep, Monday morning, April 16, 2012, at Skylark Memory Care Center in Ashland. Marlene was born in Auburn, N.Y., on March 27, 1931, the daughter of the late Leo and Louise Kroker, the oldest of five siblings. She attended Auburn High School and was valedictorian of her senior class. She graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., in 1954. Marlene married Lemert Q. Wilbur, Jr., whom she met at Cornell. They were together through almost 60 years of marriage.

Marlene took great pride in her family and many friends and took great joy in entertaining them all. Her favorite pastime was playing bridge, she was an avid reader and a proud member of the century-old Ashland Study Club. Marlene dedicated herself to volunteer work with her church, the OSF Tudor Guild and the Ashland Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and the P.E.O. sisterhood. In the Bay area she worked at a restaurant that supported a center for autistic children. Marlene was an avid sports fan and cheered for the San Francisco Forty Niners and Giants for many years.

She will be missed by many and has provided lifelong memories for all she knew. Marlene is survived by husband, Lem; sons, Mark, Christopher, David and Matthew Wilbur; daughters-in-law, Lily Herwald and Caroline Wilbur; and grandchildren, Allison, Chad, Emma, Niles, Max, Zane, Jerry and Gary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, 2:30 p.m., at Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak, Medford. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in Marlene's name to Hospice or Alzheimer's groups.
