Madeline Webster Coats

Madeline Webster Coats, 85, of Medford, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born in New York State, raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and New Jersey. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1944. She married Rev. Orville A. Coats in 1944 as well. Madeline taught school in the east, and then in Idaho and Oregon, finally teaching English as a second language to Southeast Asian and Ethiopian students in Portland. She was a gifted teacher with a wonderful soprano voice. She sang and played piano in both school and church settings.

Madeline is survived by her husband of 63 years; three daughters, Donna Lindsay (Jim), of San Mateo, Calif., Debbie Payn (Tom), of Medford, Elaine Gutzeit (Steve), of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Madeline loved her family. She was a marvelous homemaker, cook and seamstress, and will be greatly missed. Her legacy is a love for God and a passion to serve Christ.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, or the charity of your choice.

The memorial service will be Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Medford, 607 W. Main; under the direction of Conger~Morris.
