"Dave" Hampton passed away of natural causes on January 24, 2012, at the age of 92. He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., but after his military service, he spent most of his life in California, and the last 50 plus years in Southern Oregon.

Upon his move to Southern Oregon from Sacramento, Calif., in the 1950s, he raised and trained quarter horses in Talent. It was one of his greatest joys in life. He was also proud to be a lifetime member of the Uriah Masonic Lodge.

Dave had three children by his first wife, Betty Alexander, and later married Georgia Broyles. Their marriage lasted for almost 50 years, when he lost her to pancreatic cancer in 2003.

Dave and Georgia enjoyed riding their horses, camping, and competing in American Quarter Horse Association events, where Dad won many awards.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Mary, and her husband, Jim Merritt, of Eagle Point, Ore.; and a son, Don Hampton, and his wife, Marilyn, of Medford, Ore.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Another son, David Hampton, Jr., preceded him in 2009. Dad is also survived by two brothers who reside in California.

At Dave's request, there will be no services. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony, beside Georgia, in the Garden of Honor at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford, Ore. Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford, Ore., are in care of arrangements.
