Dorcas Lucile Maloney passed away July 20, 2013 in Medford, Ore. She was born July 1, 1933 to Roy and Opal Young in Beckham County, Okla. Lucile married Pat Maloney February 26, 1949 in Wheeler, Texas who preceded her in death December 13, 1992. Lucile had three children, Patricia Adams, of Central Point, Randy Maloney, of Central Point, and Debbie Schafer, of Gold Hill, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pat and Lucile moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950 where she worked in various seasonal jobs and as a homemaker. It was her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses that got her through since our father's passing and her diagnosis of Alzheimer's in 2007, along with the love and support from her family and spiritual brothers and sisters. Lucile enjoyed sharing the Bible and her hope for the future with many people.
In December, 2012 Lucile started living at Fern Gardens Memory Care in Medford. Thank you to the caregivers who took care of our mother when we couldn't be there.
Please take a moment to remember this is the disease and not your loved one. The following poem obtained from the Alzheimer's Association's website assisted our family through this process:
Do not ask me to remember. Don't try to make me understand.
Let me rest and know your with me. Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
I'm confused beyond your concept. I am sad sick and lost,
All I know is that I need you. To be with me at all cost.
Do not lose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse or cry.
I can't help the way I'm acting, Can't be different Though I Try.
Just remember that I need you, That the best of me is gone.
Please don't fail to stand beside me, Love me 'till my life is done.
We love you Mom and will miss you very much.
Lucile was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and dear friend, Alta Schipper. She is survived by her loving children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Ervin Young, of Oklahoma; sisters, Meryle Johnston and Sue Jones, of Central Point; dear friend, Dorothy Durant, of Medford; and her nieces, and nephews.
No memorial service is planned. The family plans on completing Lucile's final wish to be placed with her husband in Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
