Lorraine Veidt Evensen passed away June 15, 2018 at Capital Manor in Salem, Oregon, at the age of 94.
Lorraine was born April 16, 1924 in Anoka, Minnesota to George and Lillian Veidt. She was a member of an all-girl band and completed a USO tour of the southeastern United States during WWII. After attending the University of Minnesota, she received a degree in music education in 1948. Her 23-year music career began in the Medford School District as a Senior High Vocal Music Instructor.
In 1954, she married Paul Evensen, also an educator with the Medford School District. Later, she took some time off teaching to begin raising her two children. Throughout her career, she held the positions of Vocal Music Supervisor, Elementary Music Supervisor, and finally, Elementary Music Teacher, before retiring.
While living in Medford, she was an organist for Zion Lutheran Church and an active and dedicated member of the Community Concert Board.
Lorraine was a gifted musician and often entertained her fellow Capital Manor residents with sing-a-longs. Her family, friends, and caregivers describe her as spunky, sassy, fun-loving, talented, and memorable. She was an accomplished individual who was passionate about quality musical performances.
Lorraine is survived by her two children, Paula (Steve) of Salem, Oregon and Eric (Robin) of Sparks, Nevada; as well as three grandchildren, Anna Evensen, Chris Barnett, and Jon (Shelby) Barnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
A private service was held Friday, June 22, 2018 at Siskiyou Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Lorraine to Capital Manor Foundation, 1955 Dallas Hwy., Salem, OR 97304.
