Loretta Forester, 82, passed away July 22, 2012, in her Medford, Ore., home with her family around her. A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 607 West Main Street, Medford, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, with Pastors John and Linda Tucker officiating. A graveside service will be held at Alford Cemetery in Harrisburg at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Cathy Davis officiating.

Loretta was born July 3, 1930, in North Bend, Ore., to Jess and Mary Jane King. She married Marvin Forester March 10, 1946, at the age of 15. Together they raised a wonderful, loving family over a 63-year marriage. Loretta was the epitome of unconditional love and believed, "Strangers are people you just haven't met yet." She was a friend to all and her home was an open door to friends and family alike. Love was the main ingredient in the many meals she prepared over the years. Her knitted slippers were a family tradition, and there was never a newborn who didn't receive a hand crocheted blanket. She made sure to call everyone on their birthday and sing the Happy Birthday song. Her grandchildren never left without a hug and, "I love-a, love-a, love-a YOU!" She always spent more time caring for others than she did herself.

Loretta proudly volunteered for the Rogue Valley Hospital Auxiliary where she made neck pillows for patients, and manned the blood pressure station on Tuesdays. As a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, she was always ready to help with the church bazaar linen table, crocheting mats for the homeless, sending birthday cards, or serving food for socials. She believed everyone should volunteer, and often wondered why more people don't give of themselves. The past two years she has volunteered for Relay for Life, walking for a cure for cancer, never knowing that she had already developed the disease herself.

Loretta is survived by the granddaughter who shared her home, Katie, her husband, Justin Forester, and their children, David, Noah, Lucas, Lucy, and Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Warren Helgeson, of Medford; a son and his wife, Ken and Laura Forester, of Coos Bay, Ore.; and her beloved grandchildren, Jeff Forester, Lori Fairhurst, Leeann Upchurch, Jimmy Forester, and Paulina Ruffa, of Coos Bay; Kelsey Helgeson and Taylor Helgeson, of Eagle Point, Ore.; and Whitney Hobson, of Portland, Ore.; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, David Forester; and her husband, Marvin Forester.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church in her name.
