Lawrence Oviatt

Lawrence "Larry" Oviatt

The hour of 11 approached for our absent brother, Lawrence "Larry" Oviatt, on October 19, 2007.

Larry was born on July 14, 1934, in Denver, Colo. and moved to Oregon when he was six years old.

On May 30, 1964, he married Vicki Schweikl, who was his best friend and wife for 43 years.

Larry raised two daughters whom he was very proud of: Rhonda Gorman (Joel, who called him dad for 20 years) and Lisa Mallon (ex son-in-law Brad, whom he stayed close to.) His biggest joy in life was his four grandchildren, Whitney Sinks (Jeremy), Schyler "Sport" Gorman, Austin and Braxton Mallon. Then three years ago his little angel, great-granddaughter, Kadyn Sinks was born. They were all the brightness of his life and to them he was famous for saying "Grandpa Loves You."

Larry started working at what was then Mistletoe Sawmill (later renamed Croman Corporation) in Ashland, where he devoted 40 years. He then worked the past 11 1/2 years at the Sears warehouse in Medford.

Larry was a life member of the Medford VFW and helped run the bingo there for over 20 years. He was also a 27 year member of the Ashland Elks and devoted endless hours of volunteer work along with his wife. He served as Inner Guard there for four years.

He was very proud to have served his country, spending four years in the National Guard and four years in the Marines where he served in Korea.

He is survived by sisters, Carole Clemence, Margret Rensker, and Karen Oviatt; and brothers, Kim and Danny Oviatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edwina Oviatt; sisters, Sharon Baird, Roberta Lydia and son, Jim Curtis.

Larry always saw the good in everyone and was a light in everyone's life. He truly touched those who knew him and we will treasure and remember all of the good times that we were blessed to have shared and spent with him. He will be deeply missed by all of his family members, friends and co-workers.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the White City Dom for Disabled Veterans in memory of Larry Oviatt.

A service will be Friday, October 26, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point Veteran's National Cemetery. A "Celebration of Life" will immediately follow at the Rogue Regency.
