James Rodger Bottroff

James Rodger Bottroff was born September 20, 1946 to Warren Joseph Bottroff and Violet Galloway Bottroff in Lompoc, Calif. He passed away peacefully at his home in the Applegate Valley. He attended Rogue River Elementary School, Lompoc High School, and Allan Hancock College. He married Carolyn Sterling in 1966 at La Purisima Catholic Church. They had two children, Elizabeth and Matthew. Jim worked in the family business, Lompoc Lumber, until he and Carolyn started Lompoc Transit Mix in 1974, followed by Valley Rock, Valley Ready Mix, and J&B Trucking. They moved to the Applegate Valley in 1991. They started Bottroff Construction and Bottroff Excavation, which their son Matthew continues to operate. Jim was active in Applegate Lions and the community.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn; children Elizabeth and Matthew; daughter-in-law Cassandra; and three grandchildren, Sophia, Deegan, and Hudson. His mother, Vi Bottroff-McNett; sister, Jan Webb of Lompoc, Calif.; sister-in-law, Patricia and her husband David Carmichael of Loveland, Colo.; sister-in-law Carol Sterling; and mother-in-law Jean Sterling, both of Lompoc, Calif. There are also many nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by lifelong friends Rick and Gloria Hoover of Applegate, Ore. and many wonderful friends in Lompoc and Southern Oregon.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. March 9, 2013 at the Jacksonville Cemetery. Father Kelly Vandehay will be officiating. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life.
