Harry Eugene Burns

August 16, 1928 - November 20, 2016

Harry Eugene Burns passed away November 20, 2016. He was born August 16, 1928 to Forrest L. Burns and Laura Bain Burns, in Riverside, Calif. He was the third of four sons, Vern Burns (Ellen) of Ashland, Donald Burns (preceded in death), and Robert Burns (Jan) Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 1920 Harry’s father Forrest L. Burns opened Burns Auto Works Inc. in Riverside Calif. Forrest raised his family and ran the business, teaching his sons the upholstery trade for 36 years.

In December of 1955 Harry was a PFC in the U.S. Army. Harry was stationed in Tacoma, Wash. when he met his wife, Barbara Burns. They were married March 30, 1956. Barbara preceded Harry in death December 9, 2013.

In 1956 Harry moved to Hilt, Calif. with his family. They were upholstery men and cattle ranchers. They bought longhorn cattle that were delivered on the train to Hilt. The Burns boys rode horseback, hearding the cattle down to their ranch. In 1966 some of the family moved to Ashland and Harry and Barbara moved to Talent, where he re-established Burns Auto Works, Inc. In 1974 Harry took his family and Burns Auto Works, Inc. to Eagle Point, Ore. where it continues to this day.

Harry loved Jesus and did not hesitate to tell people about Him.

He passed on a strong work ethic to his children. He believed your word is your bond, and he treated people fairly. Harry loved to play the organ in the morning, and could also play the piano. Singing was always present in the Burns family. Harry also busted out his harmonica and played us a tune every now and then. Although he was a magnificent craftsman regarding upholstery, Harry was a cowboy! The authentic kind. He loved to farm and many times expressed the joy he found in working the fields and with cattle.

In July of 2016, Harry married Billie Kusel-Burns whom he leaves behind. Harry is also survived by his children, Steven Burns (Barbara), Kathy Clark (Robert), and Douglas Burns (Diane). Harry has numerous grandchildren and great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his son, Ron Polzin.
