Harlan (Al) Clayton Elkin

Harlan C. Elkin was born July 8, 1933, to Gladys Disney and Joseph Elkin in Morgan County, Ind. He died on May 21, 2009 in Medford, Ore.

While growing up in Indiana, Harlan played football and was active in the local FFA. Following his graduation from Mooresville High School Harlan chose to join the U.S. Navy. He served for four years and was able to see many parts of the world aboard ship. While serving Harlan met Mary Ann Fucci, they married Sept. 10, 1955. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harlan and Mary Ann moved to Indiana where their first son, Christopher, was born. After a year they decided to settle on the west coast and chose the south bay area of Los Angeles to raise their family. In 1960 Harlan and Mary Ann had a second son, Kevin. In the fall of 1969 Harlan moved his family to the beautiful Rogue Valley and became a restaurant owner. After selling his restaurant in 1977 Harlan returned to sales until retirement in 2001. Harlan was active in several organizations the Lions club, Elks club, Phoenix/Talent little league to name a few. He also loved to garden. His greatest joy was to be around his children and grandchildren.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his son, Christopher; five grandchildren, Teresa Jordon, Tina Elkin, Alyssa Elkin, Nolan Elkin and Jacob Elkin; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Elkin and Annasophia Jordon; and one sister, Joan Fishel. Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Kevin; and his grandson, Daniel. Services were held at Sacred Heart church with Father Liam officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
