Gus H. Boen



Gus H. Boen, 89, of Medford, Ore., passed away on July 15, 2008. He was born on Oct. 27, 1918, in Swain, Ark., to Sarah Fine Stapleton Boen and Calvin Boen.



He was married in Spokane, Wash., on March 28, 1947, to Colleen Erskine. They were married 54 years.



He served in the U.S. Army and the Air Force in both World War II and Korea. He served from 1940 - 1945 in WWII, and from 1950 - 1951 in Korea. He retired from the Reserves as a Master Sergeant in 1978.



He worked as a supervising carpenter at the White City Domiciliary for 28 years, retiring in 1974. He was also a registered locksmith for many years. His final retirement was in 2007, at the age of 88.



His education included high school, telegraph school and locksmith training. His hobbies included dancing, listening to and playing music and travelling. He was a longtime member of Medford First Church of the Nazarene, the Old Time Fiddlers Association and the Medford Senior Center. He did much volunteer work as a locksmith for his church and Sun Valley Indian School in Sun Valley, Ariz.



Survivors include his son, Dennis, of Orlando, Fla.; and his daughter, Deborah, of Medford, Ore.



He was the last surviving child of 15. He had five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, in 2001; and his son, Gary, in 1974.



A visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, from — to 7 p.m., and his memorial service will be held July 25, at 10 a.m., at Conger-Morris, Medford, with Pastor V. Lee Gregory of The Medford Neighborhood Church officiating. Mausoleum entombment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford.
