Frieda LoVelle Smith

Frieda Smith, age 88, of Medford, went to be with the Lord, Sunday June 17, 2007. She was born January 30, 1919 in Central Point, OR, to Marion and Elsie Young. She lived her 88 years in the Rogue Valley. She was raised on a family farm north of Central Point. She attended the one room school house on Willow Springs Road and graduated from Gold Hill High School in 1937. She was a cheerleader at Gold Hill High School.

She married Delmar Smith in Nov. 1938 at Shady Cove, OR. They lived in Central Point or Medford all their married life. In 1946 - 1950 she worked as a typist at Harry & David Bear Creek Orchards and American Fruit Growers.

Together she and Delmar started the Crater Rock Museum. The rock museum has gone from a dream to much more than they could have ever imagined. They were also members of the Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Club. She played the piano at the Central Point Grange for over 50 years, where they were also members.

She also attended the First Christian Church, where she was a member.

She loved to write letters and receive mail. She corresponded with many family and friends through the years. She was very close to her two brothers Cleo and Everett Young.

Frieda leaves behind a brother, Everett Young; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Smith; parents, Marion and Elsie Young; and brother, Cleo Young.

Memorial contributions may be given to Crater Rock Museum, Central Point, OR 97502.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Crater Rock Museum. Conger ~ Morris Central Point Chapel is in charge of arrangements. 664-3361.
