Esther May Bowman

On Sept. 22, 2008, we lost our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, godmother, aunt and friend. Esther passed away in Medford, Ore., at the Medford Healthcare Center.

She was born in San Jose, Calif., in 1929, to James and Mabel (Toni) Ralston who preceded her in death.

She was baptized at St. Francis DeSales Cathedral on Sept. 27, 1931.

She was married twice. First, to Earl Bento in the laste 40s in the Bay Area. After they divorced, Esther moved to Fort Bragg, Calif., with their daughters, Joeann and Susan. She married Edward Bowman in 1959 in Reno, Nev. A daughter, Earline, was born to them. After Edward passed in 1984, Esther moved to be near her mother in Vallejo, Calif. Upon her mother's passing, she moved to Medford, Ore.

In life were her Family, her garden, home canning and camping in the mountains. She was a waitress and a skilled cook, showing her talents at several restaurants in Fort Bragg, Calif., where the family grew up on Sherwood Road.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by daughters, Joeann Spurling, and husband Will, of Fields Landing, Calif, and Susan Dodd, and husband, Russel, of Medford, Ore., and Earline Bowman Sanders; brother, James Ralston, and wife, Jane, of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Pearl Woodruff, of Vallejo, Calif, and Barbara June Rucker, of Oakdale, Calif.; and extended family.

In keeping with her request, there will be no service. Interment will be at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, Calif., with arrangement local by Memory Gardens.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Sacred Heart Church, Providence Hospice, the entire staff at the Medford Healthcare Center, Alpha Lambda, RV Infusion Center, her doctors and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Activities Department at the Medford Rehabilitation Health Care and Healthcare Center, C/O Activities, 625 Stevens St., Medford, Ore., 97504. While Esther was a resident, she enjoyed many of the activites, Bingo being at the top of her list. You may also make a contribution to your favorite charity in her memory.
