Elizabeth Louise Hassenpflug

March 10, 1930 - February 7, 2017

Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Hassenpflug, 86, of Medford, Oregon passed away February 7, 2017. She was born March 10, 1930 in Bowdle, South Dakota to Theodore and Victoria Artz.

Betty married William Hassenpflug October 28, 1948, and in 1956 moved to Long Beach, California where together they raised their five children. She sold real estate for several years, but if you asked her what she did for a living, she would proudly say she was a mom, and that's the answer all five children would give as well.

When Betty and Bill moved to Oregon in 1982, Betty retired and was ready to enjoy watching her grandchildren grow. She was a mom and now a grandma, and was more proud of her family than anything else in her life. Betty will surely be a guardian angel to more than we can count, because throughout the years so many friends of her children also called her mom.

Later in life, she discovered another of her many talents, painting. Though she had always insisted that she had no artistic aptitude, she eventually became an avid and prolific painter, known to her admirers for a unique ability to capture life's brilliance and vibrancy. For the rest of her life she created beautiful works of art which now adorn the walls of the homes of her many friends and family members.

She is survived by her brother, Roger (Debra) Artz; and her children, Roger (Janice) Hassenpflug, BJ (Tom) Taylor, Jeanne (Dick) Barbara, MaryBeth Buonassissi, and David Hassenpflug. Betty will be missed every single day by her grandchildren, Anna Beth, Michael (Heather), Krista (Troy), Evan (Brianne), Emily (Mike), Jesse, Sam (Kimberly), Lee (Jamie), Joel (Victoria), Max, and Travis; and her sweet great-grandchildren, Owen, Blaise, Carter, Logan, Jovie, Kora, Lyla, Theodore, Ryder, Travis, Francis, and two more babies on the way. Betty is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. Our world has lost a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and step-mom, Evelyn; her sister, Joann; and brother, Douglas.

A memorial service officiated by long-time family friend, Father Jim Clifford will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saint Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church.
