Dorothy Marie Buckley

Dorothy Marie Buckley, 83, a resident of Medford since 1979, passed peacefully to the Lord and Blessed Mother Saturday, May 19, in Medford.

Dorothy was born in July of 1923 in Denver, Co., to Angelo Vendegna and Mary Vendegna, immigrants from Potenza, Italy. She was the eighth of nine children. Through hard work and family unity, the Vendegnas built a thriving truck farming and produce business.

Dorothy met Jack Francis Buckley, a Navy Radioman, in Denver. They married in 1946. She was the strength behind her husband's 37 year career in the Federal Aviation Administration. The Buckleys moved to Medford in 1979, where Mr. Buckley served as Chief of the Medford Jackson Country Airport Air Traffic Control Tower until his retirement in 1982. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper at the Medford Holiday Inn. Following their retirement, Dorothy enjoyed travelling in their motorhome throughout the United States.

Dorothy imparted her spirit to four children: Jack Francis Buckley, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1963; Jacqueline Marie Greer of Medford; Timothy Patrick Buckley of Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.; and James Edward Buckley of Green Bay, Wis.

She will always be beloved in the hearts of her five grandchildren: Michelle Marie (Greer) Cox of Sacramento, Calif.; and Madeline Simone Buckley, Isabel Jane Buckley, Jacob Nathaniel Buckley, and Elena Catherine Buckley, all of Green Bay, Wis.

She treasured the birth of her first great-grandchild, Sid Nathanial Cox, last August.

Dorothy blessed anyone she met with her spirit, which was never dampened by her severe hearing loss or any other circumstance, and by her joy and her strength. She was a farm girl and her spirit will forever be present in all growing things, especially her family.

A simple inurnment will be held at a later date at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mercy Flights, 2020 Milligan Way, Medford, OR 97504.
