Dorothy M. Ford (Burns)

Dorothy M. (Burns) Ford

Dorothy was born in Kalispell, Mont. on August 8th, 1917, the daughter of Marion T. and Nelle W. Burns. She had four siblings.

After the great depression hit, the family moved to Salem, then in 1931 to Ashland, where they stayed. Dorothy graduated from Ashland High as Valedictorian, had her name on the Senior Citizenship cup and earned the DAR scholarship. She graduated in 1935. She attended Southern Oregon Normal School ( now Southern Oregon University), then a two-year teacher's college, graduating in the fall of 1936. She taught in Butte Falls. She met and married William H. Ford, a former Principal at Bellview School in Ashland, who had recently begun working as a Southern Pacific employee, which turned into a lifetime career. They soon moved to Dunsmuir, Calif. Together they planted and preserved much of the earth's bounty, which they shared with friends and family. Bill died at the age of 91.

Dorothy went to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, after a prolonged illness of over six years. They had one son, William S. Ford (wife, Penny), of Canyonville; two daughters, Judy Brown (husband, James), of Columbia, Calif., and Sue Sauer (husband, Warren); seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three brothers. She left one living sister, Betty Jo (Burns) Krug. She will be greatly missed.

The private family burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30th, at Mount Shasta Memorial Park & Chapel, in Mt. Shasta, Calif. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
