Dorothy E. Larsen, 85, passed away of natural causes from complications of heart disease on December 17, 2012, in her home at Mountain Meadows Retirement Community in Ashland, Oregon.
Mrs. Larsen was born to Charles and Martha Schwab on April 15, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois. She lived there until age 12, when she and her family moved to the Chicago suburb of Glenview, Ill. Upon completing high school at New Trier in 1945, she attended North Central College for two years and subsequently completed her bachelor's degree in psychology at Northwestern University in 1949.
Mrs. Larsen worked as a secretary and was a member of a commerce sorority. At a sorority social function she met Andrew Larsen, who was obtaining his medical degree at the University of Illinois. She married Dr. Larsen in 1955 in Glenview, Ill. They lived in both New York City and San Francisco for three years while Dr. Larsen completed his medical training. Dr. and Mrs. Larsen settled in McCloud, Calif. in 1958 and lived there for 47 years. During that time Dr. and Mrs. Larsen raised three children.
A year after Dr. Larsen's death in 2005, Mrs. Larsen moved to Ashland, Ore. to the Mountain Meadows Retirement Community.
Mrs. Larsen was a devoted professional tennis fan, an avid attendee of live music events, and held a sustained interest in personal finance. She was a regular attendee of events at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville, Ore.
She is survived by three children, John Larsen, Linda Dewey, and Kari Larsen; and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Schwab Jr.; and her husband, Dr. Andrew Larsen.
A memorial service will be held at the Mountain Meadows Retirement Community in the Rogue Room of the Clubhouse Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders and/or the World Wildlife Fund.
