Donna M. Johnson, loving mother and grandmother, went into Jesus' arms, on January 22, 2011. She was born July 1, 1927, in Bell, Calif., as the oldest and only daughter of Ray and Vesta Allen's six children. The family moved to Ashland, Ore., in 1941.
In 1945, Donna graduated from Ashland High School, the following March, she married Melvin Johnson, after his discharge from the Army. They moved to Pasadena, Calif., in 1949, where she did office work while Mel attended college. In 1955, they returned to the Rogue Valley. Donna packed pears in the summers and later became a supervisor at the credit bureau. She assisted her husband in several business ventures, including the operation of the Hoot Owl Angus Ranch, in the Applegate area, from 1966 to 1977. She was a secretary at First Baptist Church of Medford from 1975, until her retirement in 1988.
Donna was known for her quiet spirit, her gift of hospitality, and her strong faith in the Lord, Jesus. She was a faithful supporter of First Baptist ministries until her death, believing that God heard and answered prayer.
Her husband, Mel, of 60 years, went to be with the Lord in 2006. Her parents; and brothers, Richard "Dick" and William "Bill" Allen, preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Robert "Bob" Allen, of Kans., Edgar "Ed" and Lloyd "Gene" Allen, both of Medford. She also leaves a son, Ray (Linda) Johnson; granddaughters, Meridith, Andrea, and Rachel Johnson, of Medford, and Lindsay Danylak, of Rockville, Md.; daughter, Connie (Loren) Goble; and granddaughters, Brittany and Elizabeth, of Fairfield, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist, at 2:00 p.m., January 29, 2011, in Medford. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Christian Schools, 649 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford, OR 97504.
