August 14, 1931 – April 16, 2018
Dick Goosmann, 86, was born in Lemars, Iowa to Dick Goosmann and Anna Meier Goosmann. He grew up on the family farm in Minnesota and enlisted in the Army in 1951.
While serving in Korea, he reached the rank of SFC and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Camp Stars and the U.S. Service Medal.
Dick married Arlaine May, who would be his wife of 62 years until her passing in 2012. Their marriage produced a daughter, Claudia Robbs followed by three sons, Brian, Ryan, and Randy. The family moved from Iowa to Portland, Oregon and finally to Medford in 1965 where Dick eventually retired from Pacific Power as a foreman. He always said the move west was brought about by Iowa winters and the serious dislike of climbing power poles in the snow.
Dick was a member of the Eagles Lodge, where he spent Monday evenings in a very competitive but low-stakes poker game. He was a Gold Coat Pilgrim at the Medford Moose Lodge and occasionally cooked up beef stew to serve for lunches. He donated many hours of his time to Moose sponsored charities.
Spending time with family was a joy for Dick. His other pleasures included gardening, bowling, golf, and the companionship he shared with Barbara Entler for the last four years.
Dick is survived by his four children; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald; and sisters, Helen and Geraldine. Dick was blessed with a large and loving family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlaine; infant son, Allen; and brother, Kenny.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. A celebration of Dick’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge #2647, 241 E. Barnett Rd., Medford.
Donations may be made to the Southern Oregon chapter of the Moose Lodge to the address above.
